“Landscapes”: A Talk with LEONARD SUSSKIND
Firstly, I am thrilled that I understand much more of what’s being said in Landscapes. This was one of the videos that I had seen earlier, but watching again I can say I was much better able to follow along, recognize the names, ideas and theories. In fact, I would love to have an opportunity to speak with Leonard Susskind— more so to get to know him @ an abstract level. Sounds kind of odd…but fuck it — I read of this one mathematician who would just show up @ his colleague’s house and announce:
My mind is open!
and then end up sleeping there until they had solved some complex problem.
Well…my mind is open.
Anyway, he [Susskind] poses the age old question of interest:
Why are things the way they are?
This is a question I have been asking myself since I was young — but wow does it have different meaning now — I can’t even imagine what Mr. Susskind (prof. of theoretical physics @ Stanford since ‘78) must consider when he poses such a question. Yet it seems he poses it with fatigue — after all he has been posing it in some form another for more than 20 years — but then again, it could be the fact he has a camera in his face…cause he does seem to have that genuine wonder in his eye. A look I don’t find around me too often — seems not many people are questioning things like inflaton fields and such…I digress.
Though I understand more of this video this time around — I still have much to learn…
Fuck it…my mind is open.
