“The Evolution of Cooking”: A Talk with RICHARD WRANGHAM
The Evolution of Cooking is actually pretty interesting. Richard Wrangham poses an interesting concept. Cooking as odd as it sounds, was really important to our evolution — well perhaps it’s not so odd. I feel ignorant for not even considering cooking as a step in our evolution as humans. I mean think about the implications of a society that begins to experiment with cooking food over a fire — I mean who were the first to think: “hmm I’ll add some of this dried up plant to the mix”
It’s actually quite an amazing thing to contemplate, right? Well I suppose it is for me because I never really gave much thought to cooking — perhaps it’s because I rarely cook? Haha…probably!
Nonetheless, cooking has significantly increased the quality of our food and the range of organisms we can ingest…yes cooking is distinctly human and though I do not cook much, I must say I love gourmet food (thanks to Shirley Yang)!
Cooking, yes cooking…very important indeed!
