“Who Cares About Fireflies”: A Talk with Steven Strogatz
Who Cares About Fireflies is inspirational. I remember when I felt that awe, I still do fairly often — like a rush it comes and I just think:
Shit! I know nothing! It’s beautiful!
The universe is exciting…I love the awe it bestows upon me

The video does not mention anything about fireflies — but Steven Strogatz does mention cycles — which I take to mean synch — which is where the fireflies come in. It is quite interesting to know that the blinking of certain type fireflies exhibit a surreal synchronicity. In fact, the study of these fireflies is what seemed to kick-off mainstream study of synch. Ocilators, pacemaker cells, sleep cycles, the power grid are all components that depend on synch. Furthermore, all things require synch. This is a powerful idea and an interesting field — I have read several books on the topic. In fact, I am currently reading one aptly named Synch.
So yea…who cares about the fireflies? We all should.
