Technorati and the 32 Million Americans

I always thought Technorati was a good idea…

“Today, Technorati tracks over seven million weblogs, up from 100,000 two years ago. The Pew Internet study estimates that about 27%, or about 32 million, of American internet users are regular blog readers. A new weblog is created every 2.2 seconds, which means there are about 38,000 new weblogs a day. Bloggers — people who write weblogs — update their weblogs regularly; there are about 500,000 posts daily, or about 5.8 posts per second.”

With those numbers I suppose it is about time to claim the blog: Technorati Profile

Keep in mind we must be skeptical of such numbers — as I personally know of ways to create many blogs and post many things to these many blogs which would generate a lot of numbers and those numbers would not necessarily reflect the true number of individuals participating in the “blogosphere” — right?

Yet also let us remember that artificial social participation is still participation and should be deemed as such when numbers like the above are calculated — however the distinction should not be forgotten when thinking in economic terms because artificial agents do not have money…though they may move it.

Nonetheless, Technorati and services like it are fundemental to the system of things to come.
